Harmonic Balancer

One of the most common problems plaguing 6.5L owners is broken crankshafts. One step that can be taken to prevent this calamity is to inspect and replace the harmonic balancers.

The 6.5L engine is equipped with two harmonic balancers. The inner (primary) balancer (also called the Crankshaft damper) and the outer (secondary) balancer which doubles as the crank pulley. 

This listing is for the INNER / PRIMARY balancer.

This is a genuine GEP (General Engine Products) component. GEP is a division of AM General, manufacturer of the 6.5L equipped HUMVEE for the USA Military.

If the rubber in your existing harmonic balancer shows signs of cracking, it is time to replace it. Even if the rubber is not cracked, it may still be wise to update it. With most 6.5L's now being over 25 years old, the rubber has gradually become hard over time and the harmonic balancer is no longer doing it's job of effectively damping the torsional vibrations of the crankshaft, potentially leading to premature crank failure.
