This brand new high quality Delphi / Carter lift pump is a very common failure item and usually results in the subsequent failure soon after of the very expensive VP44 injection pump. Because the injection pump is able to draw fuel from the tank, through the lift pump, even with a bad lift pump, most drivers never recognize that the lift pump has failed until they begin to experience injection pump failure and the notorious "dead pedal" syndrome, or they are unable to get the truck re-started after changing the fuel filter. This Dodge/Cummins lift pump is no longer available through the dealership - they insist that you retrofit to an in-tank pump. While this retrofit does seem to be an improvement, it is VERY expensive!
